If you know a farmer that is either growing crops for bio-diesel or thinking about it please tell them about Jatropha. Growing corn or even soy crops to market solely for oil to be used in the bio-diesel industry may not be the wisest business decision - here’s why:

Less oil = less money!

Jatropha requires very little water (it will grow in the desert), requires no crop rotation and does not need fossil-based fertilisers, it’s super easy to grow as well as harvest.  It has no conventional use and can be watered if needed with waste water. It also replentishes the earths soils.

This is not to say dump everything and only grow Jatropha.  But it does tell you that the piece of land that never gets planted because it won’t yield is certainly worth taking another look at.
