Pilot Car - Escort Car Requirements.
Height: Exceeding 17 requires 1 pilot car in front with a high pole.
Length: Exceeding 105 requires 1 pilot car in rear on all highways.
Width: On 2 lanes 12 1 to 14 requires 1 pilot car in front. 14 1 to 16 requires 1 pilot car in front and 1 in rear. 16 1 to 17 requires 1 lead pilot car, 1 in front and 1 in rear (3 total). On 4 Lanes: 14 1 to 16 requires 1 pilot car at the rear. 16 1 to 17 requires 1 pilot car in front and 1 in rear.
Travel Restrictions.
Travel is permitted 24 hours a day if the load is of legal height and width with 10 or less overhand and 75 or less in length. For other dimensions, day travel is permitted from ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset. Vehicles with dimensions less than 14 wide, 16 high, 105 long with less than 15 overhang can travel on weekends, but cannot use I-80 between Reno and the CA line, or I-15 between Las Vegas and the CA line (unless they can meet holiday travel restrictions of less than 10 wide, 146 high, 75 long, legal weight and less than 10 overhang).
