Pilot Car - Escort Car Requirements.
Height: Exceeding 17” requires 1 pilot car in front with a high pole.
Length: Exceeding 105’ requires 1 pilot car in rear on all highways.
Width: On 2 lanes 12’ 1” to 14’ requires 1 pilot car in front.  14’ 1” to 16’ requires 1 pilot car in front and 1 in rear.  16’ 1” to 17’ requires 1 lead pilot car, 1 in front and 1 in rear (3 total). On 4 Lanes: 14’ 1” to 16’ requires 1 pilot car at the rear. 16’ 1” to 17’ requires 1 pilot car in front and 1 in rear.

Travel Restrictions.
Travel is permitted 24 hours a day if the load is of legal height and width with 10’ or less overhand and 75’ or less in length.  For other dimensions, day travel is permitted from ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset.  Vehicles with dimensions less than 14’ wide, 16’ high, 105’ long with less than 15’ overhang can travel on weekends, but cannot use I-80 between Reno and the CA line, or I-15 between Las Vegas and the CA line (unless they can meet holiday travel restrictions of less than 10’ wide, 14’6” high, 75’ long, legal weight and less than 10’ overhang).
