Hours: 8:00 am 4:30 pm, Monday Friday.
You must use a Tennessee State approved permit service (click to see list) unless you purchase the permit in person or by mail. Permits are valid for 6 days. Permits cost from $10 to $30 plus the permit service fee which is usually $20.
Pilot car - Escort Car Requirements.
Width: Over 10 (If road is 2 lanes but less than 24 wide requires 1 front pilot car). Over 126 requires 1 rear pilot car.
Length: Over 75 requires an amber revolving light. Over 85 requires 1 rear pilot car. Over 120 requires 1 front pilot car and 1 rear pilot car.
Height: Over 15 requires 1 front pilot car with a height pole.
Travel Restrictions.
Travel permitted from ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset, Monday - Saturday.
Loads that are overweight only may travel 24/7. No Sunday travel. With prior approval it is possible to get a continuous travel permit for over weight only - inquire by calling Tennessee Department of Transportation listed above.
